Toddler Banana Pancakes: 5 Ingredients, One Bowl, Toddler Approved

Banana pancakes are honestly the easiest toddler breakfast in our house. Five ingredients, one bowl, one fork, and about 15 minutes, and our one-year-old eats every last bite. He even went back to the bowl for more, and I have the video to prove it. ๐Ÿฅž

There’s no blender, no fancy flour, and no added sugar. The ripe banana does the sweetening for you. They come out soft and fluffy and just the right size for tiny hands, which means you might actually get to drink your coffee while it’s warm. Okay, warm-ish.

Why We Love These Toddler Banana Pancakes

  • No added sugar: a ripe banana makes them sweet enough on its own.
  • One bowl, one fork: you mash, stir, and pour. Fewer dishes, more grace.
  • Mini size for tiny hands: little pancakes are easier for little ones to pick up and feed themselves.
  • Freezer friendly: make a double batch and breakfast is handled for the week.
  • Toddler approved: tested on our toughest critic. He went back for more.

Everything you need (plus 1 egg)
  • 1 ripe banana: the more brown spots, the sweeter your pancakes. This is the perfect job for the banana nobody wants to eat anymore.

  • A little oil or butter for the pan.

How to Make Banana Pancakes for Toddlers

1. Mash the banana

Peel your banana, break it into a bowl, and mash it with a fork until it’s mostly smooth. A few little lumps are totally fine.

6. Make them mini

Drop small spoonfuls of batter into the pan. We tip the bowl and guide the batter with the fork, so each pancake comes out about the size of a cookie. Tiny pancakes for tiny hands.

7. Flip when you see bubbles

Cook until bubbles pop up on top and the edges look set, about 2 minutes. Flip and cook about 1 more minute, until they’re golden.

8. Cool and serve

Move them to a plate and let them cool for a few minutes. Cut them into bite-size pieces or strips, whatever works for your little one right now.

Tips for Toddler-Friendly Pancakes

  • Use a really ripe banana. Spotty bananas mash easier and make sweeter pancakes.
  • Keep the heat at medium. Too hot and the outsides brown before the middles cook.
  • Let them cool. Pancakes hold heat in the middle, so check one before little hands grab it.
  • Make them your own. A pinch of cinnamon or a few squished blueberries are an easy way to switch it up.
  • New to egg, wheat, or dairy? If your little one hasn’t had them yet, check with your pediatrician before serving.

How to Store and Freeze Banana Pancakes

Fridge: let the pancakes cool, then keep them in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Freezer: lay the cooled pancakes flat on a tray until they’re frozen, then move them to a freezer bag for up to 2 months. Freezing them flat first keeps them from sticking together in one big clump.

Reheat: pop them in the toaster or the microwave for 15 to 20 seconds, then let them cool before serving.

Toddler Banana Pancakes FAQ

How ripe should the banana be?

The riper, the better. Yellow with lots of brown spots is perfect. A green banana won’t mash well and won’t add much sweetness.

Can I use a different milk?

Yes. Use whatever milk your family drinks. We used whole milk here.

Do these have added sugar?

Nope. The banana is the only sweetener. If your crew likes things sweeter, a little maple syrup on the side does the trick for the big kids and grown-ups.

How many pancakes does this make?

About 10 mini pancakes. That’s breakfast for one hungry toddler with leftovers, or a snack for two.

Can I double the recipe?

Absolutely. Double everything and freeze the extras for busy mornings.

Breakfast, Handled

That’s it. Five ingredients, one bowl, and a breakfast your toddler will actually eat. No shame in making these on repeat, okay? We do. ๐Ÿค
