The Best Trip to Punta Mita Mexico | Four Seasons Resort What to Do, See, & Eat in a Weekend

Getting to the Four Seasons Punta Mita
Fly into Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). The resort sits on a private peninsula on the northern tip of Banderas Bay, about 45 minutes from the airport.
Our ride from the airport took about 40 minutes, and once you’re there, no view is a bad view.
Our Stay at the Four Seasons Punta Mita
We stayed at the gorgeous Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, and here’s what stood out:
- One of the rarest golf holes anywhere. The resort’s golf course has a hole on a rock island out in the ocean, nicknamed the Tail of the Whale. You can only cross to it on the rocks at low tide, which is pretty neat even if you don’t golf.
- The rooms. Ours was very nice, and Four Seasons is known for cleaning your room multiple times a day. You can see it in our video below.
- Cultural activities. The resort is known for some of the richest cultural activities around, and depending on the time of year, you can even help release baby sea turtles into the ocean.
- Resort amenities. Golf, a lazy river, tennis courts, basketball courts, and hammocks by the ocean. You could easily never leave.

Where We Ate in Punta Mita and Sayulita
The best part of vacation is getting to chow down on every type of food out there.
- The Four Seasons restaurants. We ate at the resort most of the time, and it’s known for some of the best Asian cuisine around.
- Xochi, Sayulita. Right near Sayulita’s pretty rainbow street and the outdoor mall. The food is amazing.
- Mina, Punta de Mita. Right outside the Four Seasons, with tables on the sand directly on the ocean. Live bands play here, and the margaritas are rita-ing.
What We Did: An ATV Tour to Sayulita
The resort has plenty to keep you busy, but we ventured out to Sayulita on an ATV tour with Puerto Vallarta Tours.
The tour grounds also have horseback riding, side-by-sides, and zip lining, plus a cafรฉ on site, so you could spend all day there if you wanted. Be prepared, because you WILL get so dirty. Wear clothes you don’t care about.
Sayulita
Sayulita was the cutest town. You can drive straight through it in a golf cart, an ATV, or a car. It’s known as a surfer town, right by the ocean, with a ton of amazing shops and restaurants. You can watch us do all of it below.
Tours Worth Booking Nearby
Want to get off the resort? These are popular trips from Punta Mita:
- Marietas Islands boat tour. The islands sit just off the coast, and boats leave right from Punta de Mita.
- Sunset Boat Tours with Illuminating Water. Humpback whales visit Banderas Bay in winter, roughly December through March.
- A day trip to Sayulita. A colorful, laid-back surf town about 20 minutes away, great for tacos, shopping, and people-watching.
- ATV Riding. We chose this one and had the best time.
You can also book many of these through the resort’s concierge. Booking ahead online lets you compare prices and read reviews first.
Tips for Planning Your Punta Mita Trip
- A long weekend works. We did it in a weekend and still fit in resort time, an ATV tour, Sayulita, and a beach dinner at Mina.
- Pick your season. The dry season runs roughly November through May. Summer and early fall are the rainy season, hotter and stickier, but usually quieter. If you want to see humpback whales, go between about December and March.
- Ask about the sea turtles. Releases only happen at certain times of year, so ask the resort before you go if it’s on your list.
- Plan one day off the resort. Sayulita is about 20 minutes away, and the resort can help arrange transportation.
- Pack clothes you can ruin. If you book the ATV tour, you will get muddy.
- Bring some pesos. They’re handy for small shops and tips in Sayulita.
Salud!
A lazy river, a golf hole you can only reach at low tide, a muddy ATV ride, and margaritas with our toes in the sand. Hannah may not be a tequila girl, but the cerveza was flowing.
